LED vs LCD screens: which one should you choose?

19 February 2026
LED vs LCD scherm

‘Just get an LED screen, that always looks good.’ We hear it a lot. And we correct it a lot too.

LED and LCD each have their own strengths, depending on what you use them for. The wrong choice costs you money you didn’t need to spend, or a presentation that doesn’t come across the way you meant it to.

When do you choose LED?

The room holds more than 200 people and the viewing distance is long.
The event is partly outdoors or in a space with a lot of ambient light.
You need a large image surface: LED is modular and scales with you.
Impact and experience come first: stages, product launches, gala evenings.
You have to allow for build-up time: LED needs more preparation than LCD, so it also costs more.

When do you choose LCD?

The room is smaller, and the viewing distance is 1 to 3 metres per screen.
The lighting is dimmed or controlled: LCD then gives a sharper picture.
You want to set up quickly and flexibly: LCD is ready to go as soon as it’s plugged in.
It’s a meeting, boardroom presentation, workshop or hybrid event.
Budget matters: LCD is usually cheaper to buy or hire, and to set up.

The rule of thumb we always use: LED for the room, LCD for the person.

LED grabs attention from a distance. LCD delivers information up close. Download the PDF here with a comparison table.
