Beach club AV installation: sound that handles salt, sun and heavy use

A beach club is about the toughest place you can put a sound system. Salt in the air. Moisture that creeps in everywhere, sun beating down on the housings all day, and sand getting into every gap. Add a season of daily use and you can see why consumer speakers often don’t last a year in a place like that.

So you choose a fixed installation built for those conditions, one you won’t be replacing every spring. And winter is the time to put it in, so everything’s up before the season starts.

Why ordinary speakers don’t survive here

Ordinary speakers are made for indoors, for a dry room with a stable temperature. Put them on the coast and the salt eats into the connectors, moisture gets into the housing and the sun hardens and cracks the rubber.

You see the result halfway through the season. A speaker that cuts out on a busy Saturday, crackling on your terrace, or a whole zone failing just as the evening set begins. That costs you atmosphere and takings at exactly the wrong moment.

An installation designed for the coast starts from a different place. IP-rated speakers and hardware are sealed against moisture and dust, the materials can handle salt, and the cabling and connectors are chosen to last in a wet, salty environment.

IP rating: what the number tells you

IP stands for Ingress Protection. The first digit tells you how well something is sealed against dust, the second how well against water. The higher the number, the more the housing can take. For salt and sun you look separately at the material of the housing and the mounting.

For a sheltered part of the terrace, a lower rating is sometimes enough. Speakers that are properly outdoors, in the wind and the splash zone, need a high IP rating. We decide per zone what’s needed, so you don’t pay for over-specified kit indoors and you have enough sealing outside where the water really gets to.

The benefit is simple. Fewer failures and faults in an environment that’s doing its best to wreck everything. The installation runs all season without you having to think about it.

Zones for inside, terrace and beach

A beach club is several atmospheres in one location. At the bar inside you want something different from the terrace, and the beach needs its own approach again.

So we split the installation into zones. Calm background music inside at lunch, a fuller sound on the terrace for sundowners, and on the beach, sound that fills the space without disturbing the neighbours. Each zone has its own volume and mood, controlled separately from the others.

That way the music follows the day. From a calm afternoon to a busy evening set, without you constantly fiddling with knobs, or one part of your venue blasting while the other hears nothing.

DANTE and IP infrastructure as the base

Under the bonnet we lay a DANTE or IP-based network. The sound runs over a network, which replaces a tangle of separate audio cables and makes the system flexible and easy to expand.

Want an extra zone on a new part of the terrace next season? Connect it to the existing network, with no need to recable everything. The system grows with your business.

That infrastructure also makes it easier to control everything from one point. Volume per zone, source selection, a night with a DJ plugging into the system: it all runs on the same base.

Built into the design, so the tech disappears

A beach club runs on atmosphere, and visible technology works against it. Ugly speaker boxes on stands or cables across the floor undermine the design your interior architect has carefully put together.

We work the installation into the structure and the furniture. Speakers that blend into the ceiling or wall, hardware out of sight, cabling you can’t see. The technology does its job and otherwise goes unnoticed.

That means getting involved early in the design. The sooner we’re at the table with you or your architect, the neater we can build the installation in. Planning it in during the build always gives a cleaner result than retrofitting afterwards.

Even coverage from sundowners to the late set

The aim is for the music to reach everywhere equally well, wherever a guest is sitting. No dead spots on the terrace, and no spot where it’s deafening while 10 metres further on hardly anyone hears a thing.

You get there with the right placement and spread of speakers, matched to the shape of your venue. We measure the space, look at where people sit and walk, and tune the installation so the coverage is right.

The result is an atmosphere that works all season, from the first lunch guest to the last set late at night. And because the equipment is chosen for the environment and you have it checked between seasons, it stays that way. Year after year.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need special speakers for my beach club?

On the coast your equipment takes a beating: salt, moisture, sun and sand. Ordinary hospitality speakers often don’t last a season. IP-rated speakers and hardware are sealed against moisture and dust. Pair them with materials that stand up to salt and sun, and you get fewer failures and faults.

What exactly does IP-rated mean?

IP stands for Ingress Protection, a measure of how well equipment is sealed against dust and water. The first digit is about dust, the second about water. The higher the number, the more the housing can take. We decide per zone which rating is needed, depending on how much water and wind reaches it.

Can I control different zones separately?

Yes. We split the installation into zones for inside, terrace and beach, each with its own volume and mood. That way the music follows the day without you constantly having to adjust it.

Is this a hire set-up or a fixed installation?

This is a fixed installation, designed and built in for your venue. The system stays in place and runs year after year, so you’re not setting up and packing away loose equipment every season. If your pavilion only stands for the season, we agree up front how we take the installation down safely in autumn and put it back up in spring.

Can you hide the technology in my design?

That’s exactly the idea. We build speakers and hardware into the structure and furniture so the technology disappears into the design. The earlier we get involved, during the build or refurbishment, the neater the result.
