On Friday we were back at Dakpark in Rotterdam for Stichting Masjid Al-Mukaram and their annual Eid al-Fitr celebration. Eid al-Fitr (Suikerfeest in Dutch) is one of the most important celebrations in Islam. It marks the end of Ramadan and is celebrated by millions of Muslims worldwide. In Rotterdam, communities come together for the shared prayer. That’s normally in the mosque, but because of the big turnout it’s often held outside, at places like Dakpark.
At a moment like that the sound has to be right. An open-air prayer with large groups needs a sound system that reaches everyone, clearly and evenly, even when the wind or the surroundings make it harder.
Our team was there early: set-up started at 5 in the morning, and by 7 everything was ready for the prayer, which began at 8. We supplied a complete speech system with 10 active QSC speakers, a Sennheiser wireless system with a DPA headset mic, a mixing desk, cabling and a small stage. Afterwards we took it all down and headed back. What a way to start the day.
